Dont Wait! Start Your New Years Resolutions Right Now
Dont Wait! Start Your New Years Resolutions Right Now Dont Wait! Start Your New Years Resolutions Right Now Dont Wait! Start Your New Years Resolutions Right NowInstead of living it up through the holidays and then dragging yourself to the gym come January 1st, you should just start making better choices right now.If youâre one of the rare people who are actually able to keep their New Yearâs resolutions, then kudos. For real. If Forbes were to publish a 30-under-30-style list of all the folks who are able to pull this task off, the general public would be much more impressed than they are by the people who appear on the actual 30-under-30.For the rest of us, keeping our New Yearâs resolutions requires all the help we can possibly get. And some of that help is going to require thinking way outside the box. For instance, what if we told you that a great way to help you keep your New Yearâs resolutions involved ⦠ignoring the New Yearâs part altogether? Stop trying to make New Yearâs happen.Sure, it makes sense why the new year is the time that people try to turn over a new lea f. Thereâs a symbolic weight to the idea of a brand new year also bringing with it the start of a brand new you.On the other hand ⦠nah.âNew Yearâs is actually the worst time to start a change,â said Registered Dietitian and Body Balance Strategist Dina Merhbi. âBody exhaustion from the holidays, decreased funds because of presents, cold weather that makes exercise unappealing (if in the northern hemisphere). And it is shown that 99 percent of people will get off the resolution wagon within three weeks of starting.âWhy should you wait until January 1st to get going on that great new you? When people say thereâs no time like the present, this is exactly the kind of thing theyâre talking about.âMaking a change is about making a choice now and not waiting for a better time. Seeing this change as a lifestyle upgrade and not a temporary upgrade, decreases the anxiety and helps accomplish goals with confidence.âInstead of making New Yearâs Resolutions and then wai ting around to start them, make those changes right now. That way, once the big ball drops, youâll already have a monthâs head start on everyone else. That pressure all your friends and family members will be feeling to maintain their resolutions? It wonât bother you one bit.Not only that, but there are other benefits to starting your New Yearâs resolutions early as well.Avoid the holiday mega-binge.So, Netflix has got this movie up right now called The Christmas Chronicles in which Santa is played by a trim, muscular Kurt Russell. This is an outrage. Santa has to have that tummy that jiggles like a bowl full of jelly, if only because it serves as a warning to the rest of us about the cost of holiday over-indulging. The holiday mega-binge is real, and starting your resolutions now will help you avoid it.âWaiting until January 1st to start eating better and moving more may be the worst choice we make around our health and fitness,â said Health Coach and author of The Elep hant in the Gym Gillian Goerzen. âWhy? Because that arbitrary resolution deadline so often results in utter chaos between now and then. You eat all the sweets and treats. You âget lazyâ because âyouâll start back in January.âââBut what would your health look like if you just did what you can now?â she asks. And itâs a good question. Binging through the holidays isnât going to leave you feeling more prepared for the personal challenges ahead. If anything, itâll be the exact opposite!âSure, you may not be able to do exactly what youâd like, but every great choice you make towards your health is a great choice. That serving of veggies you had? Serves your body! That quick walk around the block before dinner? Serves your body! Being mindful of your servings (while still enjoying your fave holiday treats)? Serves your body!âGoerzen also warns against the dangers of New Yearâs-centric procrastination:âJust consider that waiting further reinforces the habi ts you donât want to keep. If youâve been over-indulging and not moving regularly, those are health habits too (just maybe not the ones you want)â"and breaking free of those and developing new and different habits is that much harder the longer you wait.âSo whatâs herâs advice? Well, if youâve made it this far into the post and canât guess what it is, then let Goerzen make it crystal clear:âStart now. Do what you can. Drink that glass of water. Eat that serving of veggies. Take that 10-minute walk on your lunch break. Practice one minute of mindful breathing every day. And ⦠give yourself wiggle room to be human. Enjoy the holidays. Savor your favorite treats. Embrace the beauty of the season and skip the New Yearâs Resolution entirely this year!âEasy does it.Anyone whoâs tried to quit smoking cold turkey or even gone straight from holiday excess to a strict new diet can tell you: Making big abrupt changes is extremely difficult. Starting now will give you t he chance to ramp up your personal reformsâ"and lower the risk that youâll crash hard and fall of the wagon.âThere is so much pressure to do the right things all at once in our goals on the first day of the year,â said author and nutrition educator KJ Landis. âIf we make a list and attempt to ease into our changes little by little, it takes the pressure off.âEven if starting at the beginning of December is too big an ask for you, starting only a week before your New Yearâs deadline could bring untold benefits.âFor example,â offered Landis, âif I want to take a new semester of classes at the local college, I can take my time during the week before New Yearâs and read up on the subject matter I will be studying. I can prepare by reading the syllabus and reading about the professorâs style of teaching and his or her reputation. She offered another example as well: âIf I want to eat healthy as my New Yearâs resolution, I can begin the week before and have a hab it already set in place. This also helps with refraining from overindulgence on New Yearâs Eve.âBeat the New Yearâs rush.If your New Yearâs resolution involves exercising more, then we have some bad news. Come January 1st, your local gym is going to be a total zoo. And while itâs great that lots of people will be doing their best to live a healthier lifestyle, that environment wonât be the most conducive to success, especially if youâre a newbie. As RightFit Personal Training CEO Matthew Kornblatt put it:One main reason to start your fitness resolutions before New Years Youll beat the rush! The gym during the first week of January is an absolute madhouse, so why not get into a routine a few weeks before? When most others will be taking time off from exercise during the holidays, you will have more than enough space for yourself at the gym.âGetting a head start on fitness before New Years will help you create and maintain healthy habits without the unnecessary distr action of fighting for equipment, or having to whip down someone elses sweaty bench.âAnd while we always preach thriftiness on this blog, people with some expendable income on hand might do well to get some expert help:âIf you feel sluggish about getting started now, you might want to consider hiring a personal trainer,â said Kornblatt. âA certified fitness professional will give you the push you need, and will help put you on a path towards living a healthy lifestyle.âResolve together, fail apart. No matter when you start your resolutions, youâre going to encounter obstacles. Some of them will be moments of pure temptation, but many others will arise from the difficulty of building up new and improved habits. Either way, one surefire method to help combat these obstacles is to enlist your friends, family, and coworkers in the effort. From networking expert and author of Build Your Dream Network, J. Kelly Hoey:âNo one ever goes it alone. All of us reach and achieve our g oals with the help of others. New Years Resolutions should be no different. To improve your success in keeping your goals in 2019, start early and start by connecting each goal to a person or community.âFor example, one of the top New Years Resolutions is to stay fit and healthy (followed closely by losing weight and spending less/saving more). Are there friends or work colleagues who have the same goals? What about switching a weekly lunch learn around a boardroom table to a power walk talk instead? Think about organizing a healthy potluck dinner with friends instead of a calorie-filled (and expensive) evening out.ââSlip a note in the holiday card you send out, sharing your ideas and challenging those friends to join in achieving your New Years Resolutions. The best part is not only will you greatly improve the odds of keeping your resolutions, youll strengthen your personal relationships too.âMaking New Yearâs Resolutions is easy. Itâs keeping those resolutions thatâ s hard. But by getting a head start in December, setting achievable early goals, and building a support network, the odds of your success will rise dramatically. Essay on Malcolm X From Illiterate to Erudite - 624 Words
The more effort we use in studying the better results we will get. Certain people have a hard time comprehending school work from the first grade to throughout high school. For example, in the article ââ¬Å"Saved,â⬠the life of Malcolm X, the reader is told about Malcolmââ¬â¢s struggle with learning .One problem he had was he couldnââ¬â¢t write or read his own hand writing. The way he began to overcome his handicap was that he would copy and memorize words from the dictionary. When he entered prison he was illiterate. He could neither read nor write. Later on, to help his reading comprehension, he would spend time in the prison library. Spending an hour every day in the library helped to increase his comprehension. In the beginning young writersâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Thatââ¬â¢s exactly what he did with every page of the dictionary. He would draw a picture of an animal that belonged with a particular word just so he could remember. Later, he would fold the pages down to be able to return to the place he was studying. We all know many kids who do not like to read from elementary to college. In the early school years, there was always an instructor or, a parent to always guiding us. Or they would say itââ¬â¢s time for silent reading or even force us to read. This always worked for the best because kids to today love to tell stories to friends and families. Malcolm X went to the Norfolk colonyââ¬â¢s prison, library everyday where he would stay for at an hour. He felt like he was in heaven just from seeing all the different books. He would be concentrating so hard on the books, which he would stay up past the normal time to go to sleep. Sometimes when it would be lights out he would try to read in the dark just because the book was just starting to get interesting. Last but not least, when a student is reading, he or she will lose his or her train of thought if the teacher interrupts to ask a question. The students forget what they just read and want to quit because they feel like they wonââ¬â¢t get the gist of the story. Children are required to read at home whether it is a reading assignment from the teacher or a nice bedtime story

The Effect Of Ad Hominem Fallacies And Biases - 905 Words
Analytical Essay on the Effect of Ad Hominem Fallacies and Biases in Writing In writing, fallacies and cognitive biases hamper the effectiveness with which an author depicts his/her points, and therefore obscure the main purpose of a piece. A fallacy is defined as mistaken belief based on an unsound argument, while a bias is a prejudice in favor or against a certain thing, person, object, place, idea, or belief. There exist countless amounts of different types of fallacies and biases, however, regardless of whichever a piece of writing contains, when noticed fallacies and biases will negatively affect writing. When reading and writing, one should remain aware of these fallacies, especially ad hominem fallacies and biases. As will be displayed in both Langewiescheââ¬â¢s and Jonesââ¬â¢s articles due to the fact that an abundance of these, divert readers from the main idea of their pieces, cause the authorsââ¬â¢ credibility to be questioned, and therefore the credibility of th e writing to be questioned as well. Ad hominem fallacies occur when an author ââ¬Å"instead of directly addressing an opponent s argument, uses a personal attack on his/her opponentââ¬â¢s character or circumstancesâ⬠(Yapp, 2013, p.99). This fallacy causes two effects on the reader, the first is a bias against the authors opponent, which causes writing to be ineffective. This, is due to the fact that the reader is not forming an opinion against the authors opponents argument, but against the authors actual opponent. Junior College Baseball Free Essays
Growing up as a kid it is easy to say that it is almost every little boys dream to one day become a professional baseball player. They wake up and go out to play in there practices and games trying to be like one of the greats. Ad kids get older there are some that fade away from the dream and some that still live by the dream and try there hardest to get to that ultimate goal. We will write a custom essay sample on Junior College Baseball or any similar topic only for you Order Now When you get to high school there will not be that many kids playing baseball and school is very tough. there are athletes that are also very smart and do well in class and others that just arenââ¬â¢t as good in the classroom. he ones that do good in the classroom even though they may not be better at a sport get to play anywhere they want in a nation and there are many good players that are left to play junior college baseball. junior college has always been a stepping stone to get to a big university and if you are an athlete one step closer to the ultimate goal. If the state of California takes away sports and privileges it will make less students want to go there, more kids with crushed dreams and could lead to more kids on the street and more poverty even. Junior college sports can be a lead or a big leap in a student athletes life to becoming a professional at there sport. Moorpark college has gone upon themselves to take away the fall league for baseball. being that the fall league takes it to the first issue in which kids dreams will be crushed and opportunities will be lost. In her March 12, 2010 blog,Erica Perez stated. ââ¬Å"â⬠We tried to build a program that was providing lots of opportunities for students to compete at the Division I level. Unfortunately, there will be fewer opportunities in the future. There is a good chance that there will be ball players thats dreams get crushed just because of this slight change in the program. If a player can not play in the fall it is merely impossible for them to get seen by college coaches mostly but also professional scouts. During the season all of the college coaches have their own season to focus on therefore they use the fall as a time to go out and watch the prospects compet e. The reason behind the problem is that there was a lawsuit against Moorpark College for a head injury that occurred during a baseball game. Although it is very upsetting that a player was injured I do not believe that is is right to take away all of those privileges simply because someone got hurt. It may sound selfish, however, the reality is that they player and the family know that there is a chance of injury and put themselves out there and risk it just as all other players do. In an interview with coach Terry Mcmaster he said â⬠When there is no baseball in the fall it takes away great opportunities for guys to get scholarships and drafted to play pro ball. In the whole situation it makes no sense that they cut all the games because it is doing nothing but hurting the school. Most athletes that are at junior college are there because they didnââ¬â¢t get high enough grades out of high school to compete in sports or just get into the school. If the fall program is gone and kids can not get to the next level it will just increase the amount of kids that do not graduate with a degree and thus are more likely to end up in poverty searching for a job ââ¬Å"Budget Cuts May Cost UC Davis up to Nine Sports Teams | California Watch. â⬠California Watch | Bold New Journalism. 2010. What is popular culture Essay Paper Example For Students
What is popular culture? Essay Paper This involves the theory that culture is mass produced for mass consumption (John Storey, Cultural theory and popular culture, page 10, 1993) and that those consuming are oblivious to their exploitation. This is then connected to a sense that this component of our culture has been imported from America as it is seen by many as the birthplace of commercialisation. In contrast a further theory suggests that those responsible for popular culture are the people themselves, contending other theories that claim it is something enforced upon us by the powerful. We will write a custom essay on What is popular culture? Paper specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now This view does leave unanswered questions though, one being who do we define as being the people? Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci has also contributed with the concept of hegemony. The hegemony of a political class meant for Gramisci that class had succeeded in persuading the other classes of society to accept its own moral, political and cultural values (Joll, J 1977, in An Introduction to Theories of Popular Culture, page 165, Dominic Strinati, 1995). With this Gramsci proposed that dominant groups in society are able to impose themselves over subordinate groups in a bid to gain control over them. The postmodernist has also added to the debate with the idea that there is now no difference between high and popular culture, all culture is in fact post-modern culture. This has resulted in further clouding of the difference between commerce and culture, with the two now often overlapping. And so it is that popular culture is an ever changing terrain that has many influences, be they historical texts such as music or literature, or lived cultures and practices such as religious festivals. A product of industrialisation due to the manner in which the period changed relations within the cultural landscape, it would appear that its interpretation can vary depending on what has influenced the definer, as this quote shows. People are constantly struggling, not merely to figure out what a text means, but to make it mean something that connects to their own lives, experiences, needs and desires. The same text will mean different things to different people, depending on how it is interpreted. And different people have different interpretive resources, just as they have different needs. (Lawrence Grossberg 1992, in Cultural Studies and the Study of Popular Culture, page 6, John Storey, 1996). Bibliography Storey, J. (1993), Cultural Theory and Popular Culture, Harvester Wheatsheaf. response to sherry turkle arti essays
response to sherry turkle arti essays Review of Sherry Turkles Article Sherry Turkle is an author of many things. She enjoys to write about cultural aspects of psychoanalysts and about the human relationship to technology. Her main focus is on online role-playing games. An article that I recently read of hers was Constructions and Reconstructions of the Self in Virtual Reality. In it she writes about online games such as Identity workshops, Role-Playing Games, Virtual Realities, and Evocative Objects. Although relatively hard to read at times, I found her article to be quite interesting as well as informative. The first section of her article dealt with Identity Workshops. She talked about how people create different worlds for themselves through the computer. I can identify with this section. At some point in time, everyone in there life wishes they could change something about it. Identity Workshops can also help people deal with their problems. If they are having problems in the work place they can come home and go on the computer and create the perfect world for themselves. I particularly liked this section because I was able to easily identify with it and I am sure many others can as well. The next section was Role-Playing Games. This section helped people cope with the fact that their lives are less than perfect and they are able to be put in a situation that will help them see their problems differently. This section can prove to be helpful for someone who has something wrong in their life and does not know what to do about it. The third section dealt with Virtual Realities and Role Playing to a Higher Power. This section gave an example of a man named Peter who spent 40 hours a week on MUDs. In his program, he makes up his ideal self in a life that is much more sophisticated than his own. He felt that the program kept him from having suicidal thoughts. I feel tha ...

10 High Paying Jobs For People That Really Hate Stress
10 High Paying Jobs For People That Really Hate Stress Nearly everybody needs to work. But sometimes we think that in order to make decent money, we have to work slavish hours, answer emails at any time of night, and sacrifice all semblance of a personal life. Itââ¬â¢s called ââ¬Å"workâ⬠for a reason, right? But what if that were not the case? It is possible to get a low-stress, fairly easy job that pays well. Most require some advanced education, but there are plenty out there that are attainable with only a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree and some finesse. Start planning for how youââ¬â¢ll land yours and stop stressing! Here are 10 of the best low-stress, high paying jobs.1. OrthodontistThis is definitely a career path for which youââ¬â¢ll have to get some serious schooling- at least four years of dental school and a year or two of residency training. But the average annual salary is over $196k and the stress is relatively low. Put in the work early on, and reap the benefits later!2. OptometristKind of along the same line s as orthodontist, this job is fairly stress-free as the medical profession goes.
